Maritime Criminal Law

The law firm represents individuals and companies in matters of maritime criminal law, both nationally and internationally.

It provides legal assistance and defence in relation to offences under the Navigation Code, as well as other offences under the Criminal Code and special legislation governing maritime safety and activities carried out within harbours, commercial and tourist ports, including matters concerning the application of and compliance with customs regulations.

Over the years, the law firm has developed particular expertise in offences relating to commercial shipping and boating, as well as those provided for under the Immigration Act (including aiding and abetting illegal immigration and the trafficking of migrants, also in the context of organised crime), environmental offences (including pollution, waste management and planning violations), shipwrecks and maritime disasters, manslaughter and personal injury in the nautical sector, smuggling and the movement of goods and weapons, false customs declarations, international drug trafficking, bribery and money laundering, seizures and confiscations of vessels, money, goods and valuables, transnational crimes.

We provide advisory and legal defence services to shipowners and maritime operators in general, including assistance in the event of maritime accidents regarding the management of civil and criminal liability also in terms of insurance.

Victims of the aforementioned offences are protected through the filing of formal complaints and, in the subsequent phase, through out-of-court settlement of the dispute or by bringing a civil action in the criminal proceedings.
